Vex’d – Cloud Seed LP (Planet Mu)  



One of early dubstep’s breakout production teams, Vex’d, return with a post-humous album called Cloud Seed on Planet Mu next month, reportedly being released as an addendum to the career of Roly and Jamie, who have since parted ways, and musical directions. As an aside, Jamie’s Kuedo project recently made wax on Planet Mu with his Dream Sequence EP plotting one of the most richly peppered instrumental hip-hop courses heard since Flying Lotus’ Reset EP, but as far as Cloud Seed is concerned, it’s a return to Vex’d’s industrial 140bpm workings that they showcased on 2005’s Degenerate–one of the most respected and successful dubstep “albums” to date.

Segueing together recorded material that was always intended for use on their 2nd LP with seldom heard remixes from the same era, Cloud Seed is an album in its own right, made for all those people perplexed by the duo’s decision to part ways. As you might expect from the team behind an album that brought a film noir sense of tension to the half step template, Cloud Seed is a thunderous stomp through slow broiling drum textures, unsettling atmospherics and the kind of bass that makes your heart fear your chest might implode under the weight.
